Operation process and axial movement of automatic decanter centrifuge

Sep 02, 2019

The automatic decanter centrifuge is a centrifuge that realizes the centrifugal sedimentation operation. During operation, the suspension forms an annular liquid layer along the drum wall under the action of centrifugal force, wherein the dense solid particles settle to the drum wall in the radial direction to form a sediment, and the clarified liquid is discharged through the drum overflow port. The sediment is discharged by manual or mechanical means. Commonly used and intermittently operated are a three-legged sedimentation centrifuge and a horizontal scraper discharge sedimentation centrifuge for treating suspensions having a solid particle size of >5 um, a solid-liquid phase density difference of >500 kg/m3 and a concentration of less than 10%.

The automatic decanter centrifuge is mainly used as a centrifugal separator for separating the components of the suspension by centrifugal sedimentation. The suspension added to the drum forms an annular liquid layer under the action of centrifugal force, and the solid particles therein settle on the drum wall to form a sediment. The clarified liquid is discharged through a drum overflow or a pipette, and is referred to as a separating liquid. At the end of the separation, the sediment is discharged manually or mechanically.

In the process of sedimentation to the drum wall, the solid particles of the automatic decanter centrifuge also move axially with the liquid flow. When the feed amount is too large, the liquid flows to the overflow port, but has not settled to the drum wall. The granules are discharged from the drum with the separation liquid to make the separation liquid turbid. For difficult-to-separate suspensions with small solid-liquid phase density difference, small solid particles or high liquid viscosity, a sedimentation centrifuge with a high separation factor should be selected to prolong the residence time of the suspension in the drum (for example, reducing the feed amount or adopting a long length) Drums, etc.) to ensure that the separation solution is clear.
